Chair troubles

My recliner was involved in a tragic accident over the weekend.  One of my dogs has been fixated on the power cord ever since the chair was purchased.  I am not sure what it is about the cord.  Maybe it has a smell on it that he likes, or maybe it is the texture of the cord. Either way the end result could be disaster.

Thankfully, my dog was uninjured after destroying the power source of the chair.  The chair is finished because without the power cord the foot stool cannot be lifted.  I wish there was some kind of back- up method for opening and closing the chair.  I loved this chair and it was a gift.  I think the smart thing to do is for my next chair to have a manual lever rather than an electric button.  Tomorrow the newspaper will have a bunch of advertisements for furniture and I will start searching for my next comfort spot.

Comic relief

Last night I watched Bill Engvall.  He is a wicked funny comedian.  His material is related to real life incidents and that makes a significant difference.  When a comedian is able to make real world events seem funny then people are going to listen and feel a direct connection.

Some of his material is a bit raunchy but the rest of it is pretty down to Earth.  I’m not sure where he gets his material because all comedians get their material from different places, but this man had some really good stuff!  He specifically told a story about the motorcycle he asked his wife to buy him for his birthday.  He said that one year he asked his wife to buy him a motorcycle for him for his birthday and when his birthday came around she showed up with a scooter.  Well, he was shocked but being a good husband he got on it and took it for a test drive.  He said he felt so stupid, mainly because he was only putting down the road while bugs were passing him instead of the other way around.  Absolutely hilarious!  If anyone has never heard him perform I do recommend it.  Laughter is so important in this life.

Grilling Time

April is finally here! For me that means I will be digging out my gas grill and checking to see if I need to replace any parts.  I may even need a new one this year because my current grill is about time to be retired.  I have had it for over five years and it has some weather damage.

I have been looking a fairly large grill as my next purchase.  I really like the gas grills that have an attached burner.  This makes preparing dinner a lot more efficient. There is nothing like cooking on the grill and watching the sun set.  I hope to also invite a group of my close friends over when I start up my grill for the first of the season.  Cooking outside and enjoying a shared meal with friends and a sunset is the perfect way to end a hard winter and ring in a busy summer!

My toy store

I went down to the local hardware store today and well, that  never good because I can usually never leave without spending a ton of money.  Today was a little different; I actually did have a few items on a list. OK, it was a mental list but still I was confident that I could walk out of there just with those few items.

About an hour into being at the store I started to laugh at myself because I had already filled a cart full of stuff that I thought was a “bargain.”  Now, I am not usually a bargain shopper but when I saw a set of socket wrenches that I didn’t have for$75, I thought this was a real deal.  Unfortunately, the bargains did not stop there I saw flashlights and screwdrivers that were also calling my name.  By the time I looked at my watch I saw that I had been in the store for almost three hours! My carts were showing I had spent that much time as well.  The kicker is I hadn’t even begun to check out the gas grills.  I guess that will be next time.  I think spending more than three times the cost of my original list’s worth is enough for today.

Alaska State Police

Last night I watched a really cool show on the Discovery channel. They is an ongoing show about the adventures of the Alaska State Police. I am convinced that some of the things seen on the show are strictly for the camera but otherwise it is fairly accurate.

This particular episode was centered around catching illegal hunters. The troopers had set up a moose decoy near a highway. State law says that you cannot shoot from a roadway. It took the troopers staging a little while to catch someone but they finally did. It wasn’t anything “good” in my opinion however it was something. They caught a father and his son shooting at the decoy. The son was the one who made the shot and being a juvenile he was only issued a warning. The troopers immediately went back to their unmarked vehicle and waited. A little while later they bagged another hunter, an adult this time. The man this time was not on the roadway but had gone down into the woods after spotting the decoy. The troopers alerted him with their horn and he stopped. He wasn’t doing anything illegal but they didnt want him shooting at the decoy either. So they checked his license and sure enough it was expired. He was also summonsed and let go. I have to say they decoy looked pretty real. I was impressed.
