Have you ever heard of a guitar that could be played acoustically OR electrically and still sound great? I never had – I thought you had to play one or the other. Well today I saw a photo of a guitar takamine and I was quite impressed and surprised at the same time. When I was younger I wanted to learn to play the guitar, and was given an inexpensive acoustic guitar to play on and to learn on with lessons. But I have to admit that when my parents signed me up for lessons the teacher insisted on teaching me really boring songs and I quickly lost interest. Why don’t teachers make learning music FUN?

My family always gets very invested in the presidential election. They watch every debate, following through all of the primaries, and we have very spirited discussions about the candidates and their views. Most of my family generally votes the opposite party that I vote, so I try to keep a low profile so as to avoid the temper tantrums that some people in the family have. Others in the family are not as mindful of keeping the peace, and often will wear their favorite political candidate’s advertising products on their body.

I can remember the last presidential election there was a big spirited discussion when my brother-in-law wore a ron paul shirt to the family Thanksgiving dinner. I’m not sure if the high emotions amuse me or scare me, but one thing is for certain, my family takes their politics very seriously and if you do not support their candidate of choice you can be deluged with muck raking information about your own candidate. I’m always glad when the elections are over!

Over the past couple of months Pizza Hut has been running a special where you can get any size pizza, any type crust, any specialty, for only $10. Well, my family likes Pizza Hut Pizza a lot, and I had received a couple of Pizza Hut gift cards for Christmas, so I decided that I would go ahead and take advantage of their $10 special and order some of our favorite pizza – their large pan meat-lover’s pizza. Well, I have to admit that the last two times that we did that, the meat lovers pizza did not have much meat on it at all. In the past, there was so much meat on the pizza that you could hardly see the cheese or the sauce! Now you can hardly see the meat. Very disappointing.

Guest post by Becky Thurman

I could not believe it when I went to Wal-Mart to buy a few things, and when I went back to the car it would not start. I think that the gas line was frozen, so I went into Wal-Mart and bought a can of dry gas. I put the dry gas into the gas tank, and the car still didn’t start. Well, I decided it was time to buy a new battery, so I went back inside the Wal-Mart and went to the automotive department and told the employee that I needed to buy a new battery and have them put the battery into the car. I explained that the car was in the parking lot and that they needed to go out to it because the battery in the car had died. The employee told me that they would only install the battery for me if I brought the car inside their garage. Well, I had no way to move the car into the garage, so I told them that they had lost the sale, and I would just get a jump start for now and buy the new battery someplace else.

So out to the parking lot I went. I popped the hood of my car, got my jumper cables out and started to hook them up to the dead battery. There was a nice young man just getting out of his car parked right in front of my car (talk about great timing!) I asked him if he could help me out with a jump start, and he did. He hooked up the cables, and started my car no problem. I offered to pay him for his trouble and he refused. So I gave him a big ol’ hug and thanked him so much. Then I drove home and told my hubby what had happened. He used to work in that Wal-Mart in that automotive department. He told me that he was going to call the store manager and raise some cain. Come to think of it, I didn’t hear that phone call; I’ll have to ask him if he ever made it! One thing is for sure, that Wal-Mart will not be selling me a new battery – we will buy it elsewhere.

Not being a fan of shopping for gifts, I tend to do a lot of my Christmas shopping at the last minute. Yes, I admit it, I procrastinate on things like this. There is a good reason for this, though, when I finally get around to shopping for the gifts, the people that I am buying gifts for don’t have a lot of time to change their minds about what they want! There have been years in the past when someone told me that they wanted something for Christmas, and then when I got it for them and they unwrapped it, they told me that they had decided to not wait for Christmas and just bought it for themselves! So waiting until the last minute helps to keep that from happening. To be honest, I’ve started to think that the best way to give Christmas gifts that the person really wants is to just give them a gift card to one of their favorite stores. That way they can get what they REALLY want!

I’m trying to buy Made in America products for Christmas presents this year. I am finding it to be a very difficult task. Many of the gifts that people want are electronic in nature, and most of those items are made overseas. When I Google “Made in USA” very few items actually show up that would be things that the people on my gift list would really like to have.

I’d like to shop local, but I don’t want to pick up every item on the shelf and turn it over to see where it was made. I figure that if I look online first for the product itself, then I can go to the local store to buy it. If you have any suggestions about where to find items that are Made in USA, please let me know, I’m interested!

One of my pet peeves is when you go into a fast food restaurant and place an order and pay for the order and then when you get the food it is missing part of the order. When you find out that it is missing (if you are lucky you are still there) and bring it to their attention, they reply “oh, we’re all out of that!” Well, don’t you think you should tell me that before I walk or drive away and offer me a refund or an alternative? This has happened at least once in every fast food restaurant chain I’ve visited, so I can’t point my finger and yell at one particular chain. Just plain old bad customer service. I think that the next time it happens to me I’m going to go online and complain to the company directly.

Last night we were all feeling too lazy to cook, so we decided to cook up the DiGiorno’s frozen pizza we have had in the freezer for a couple of weeks. It was the rising crust three meat pizza. I had my doubts about whether or not I would like it, but I have to tell you that it was really very good. So good in fact that I’ve put it on the shopping list to buy more. And chances are pretty good that we’ll be eating that pizza a lot more in the future instead of going to the pizza restaurant that costs double the amount that the frozen pizza cost!

I’ve tried their thin crispy crust pizza and didn’t like it at all, so I’m really glad I like their rising crust pizza! It’s nice to know I can have a few of them in the freezer for future times we don’t feel like cooking anything complicated!

I’ve been thinking about taking up square dancing. Before I do that, I need some nice looking boots. A friend of mine told me to go to the Town & Country Leather Store. He told me that “they make a real fancy pair that you polish up and your feet won’t get sore and you won’t make a fool out of yourself on the stage.” He was just kidding of course. Well I went there and tried on five or six pairs. I was fussy what they looked like, but in the end I went back to the first pair that I picked out.

Jeannie wandered off down another aisle and all of a sudden she found something that she liked, so whammo – it was a double sale for this guy. I didn’t mind – she looked hot in them. But then again, she looks hot in anything!

The employees there were extremely nice. They work with you and provided very friendly service. They told me that if I wasn’t happy with those boots that I could bring them back within the first two weeks of purchase.

They even called me to ask how I liked them and I told them that I liked them just fine even though I hadn’t been out dancing yet. I was looking for something that I could dance in for two or three hours and feel like I hadn’t danced at all, and I think that these will do it!
