Not being a fan of shopping for gifts, I tend to do a lot of my Christmas shopping at the last minute. Yes, I admit it, I procrastinate on things like this. There is a good reason for this, though, when I finally get around to shopping for the gifts, the people that I am buying gifts for don’t have a lot of time to change their minds about what they want! There have been years in the past when someone told me that they wanted something for Christmas, and then when I got it for them and they unwrapped it, they told me that they had decided to not wait for Christmas and just bought it for themselves! So waiting until the last minute helps to keep that from happening. To be honest, I’ve started to think that the best way to give Christmas gifts that the person really wants is to just give them a gift card to one of their favorite stores. That way they can get what they REALLY want!
Frugal is good
I was surprised earlier today when my wife pulled out three “empty” bottles of Gold Bond hand lotion (the pump style) and cut them open with a knife. I asked “what in the world are you doing?” She replied “salvaging hand lotion. There’s a lot of lotion left in these bottles!” She ended up getting about eight ounces of lotion out of the bottles! She used a rubber cooking spatula to scoop out the lotion and transferred the lotion into four empty night cream jars she had been saving.
I was so impressed by how much lotion she salvaged from being thrown away! That is a lesson I’ve learned today – when you think your pump bottle of something is empty, there really is a lot left – you can cut it open and transfer the contents to a jar and use it up! It may not seem like a lot at the time, but it adds up!
Direct deposit
I love direct deposit paychecks! I never thought I would, but I really do! I’ve always wanted to be able to take my paycheck down to the bank and cash it, Made me feel like I really accomplished something, having that cash in my hand! But lately it has become more difficult to get in and out of the bank on payday quickly, and my company announced a few months ago that direct deposit was no longer going to be an option; it was going to be mandatory. I wasn’t happy about it then, but I have to admit that it is a real time saver – now I don’t have to go to the bank at all!
Those baby commercials
I think that commercials that feature babies that are portrayed as talking, or dancing, or roller skating are great commercials! I love the special effects that are used! One of my favorite ones is the E-trade baby commercial where the baby is having to deal with a jealous girlfriend. Too funny!
Upcoming Hoe-down!
This weekend is going to be fantastic! I am super excited to attend a country concert. My one my favorite bands are coming to the waterfront. The weather is suppose to be great!
There is going to be a large group of vendors present. This means some interesting good to browse as well. I also heard that there is going to be a beverage tent. This will certainly draw the crowds! I am planning on bring my absolute favorite girl with me and we are going to probably sing our hearts out, foolishly of course! She loves the band as well and told me she was going to wear a cowgirl hat. I laughed but think it will be cute.
As for me I was hoping to obtain some cowboy boots before the concert however, I was shocked at the cost of such an item! They can be really expensive. My girl says I will have to wait until my birthday for such a purchase. Either way we will be quite a sight to see in our John Deere tee- shirts! Yee- Haw!
