Today is Independence Day!  I’m always glad for the 4th of July, we get a three day weekend and an excuse to get together with friends and family and cook burgers on the grill!  And then later we go to see the local fire department’s fireworks show.  It’s always fun to go there because we bring chairs and blankets and picnic snacks and end up running into people we know and have a good time visiting there too.  What makes it better is that the fire department often arranges to have some entertainment going on before the fireworks; a local band plays a couple of sets, there are refreshment stands, face painting for the kids.  There is a carnival type atmosphere and the fireworks show is always a good one!

From what I can tell listeing to the news, the cost of a gallon of gas has evened out across most of the country. They say the average price for a gallon of gas is now about $2.59 a gallon most places. Of course, there are some places, like California, where the cost is a lot higher.

I’ve been hearing on the news, and reading articles about the many businesses that are laying off employees, closing stores and branch offices, and so many are just downright going completely out of business! It certainly makes the average consumer very uneasy about spending any money on anything that is not absolutely necessary!

I’m afraid that this is going to turn into a vicious cycle, with a downward spiral that is going to be really hard to pull back. I hope the economic stimulus package does the trick!

Right after breakfast this morning, I looked out the kitchen picture window and saw a horse in the middle of my flower garden!  He was just standing there, looking back at me!  I knew there was a horse farm down the road a little ways, but didn’t know the name of the people who owned it.  So I called the few neighbors that I do know and asked them if they knew who owned the horse farm.  Eventually I got the phone number, and called them and asked them if they were missing a horse.  They said yes, and I told them that it was in my yard.  They came right down to get the horse back, but the horse wanted to play hard to get!  It took them a while to rope the horse and take him home.  It was rather amusing to watch the horse toy with them as they tried to catch him!  He would trot just far enough out of their reach and stop and look at them, then they would get closer to him and he would trot a little distance again.  I could almost hear the horse laughing to himself!

Last Saturday a group of my friends and I spent the day cruising the roads on our bikes. We had been planning this outing since last winter, and it finally came to fruition. There were about fifteen of us on our Harleys, and we all had our ladies riding behind. We rode for a few hours and stopped at a roadside diner for lunch, and then rode home again using a different route. It was a beautiful day for a ride, and we all had a great time. I hope we can do this again next summer too!
