My mother is left handed but it rarely comes up as anything significant in a regular day. About the only time her being left handed has caused a problem was when she needed a pair of scissors and I did not have a pair of left handed scissors. Other than that, I don’t think it matter much to her about being left handed.
Do cigars taste better the older they get?
Is it true that Rocky Patel cigars taste better the older that they get? Or is there a point in time where they get too old to taste good? I don’t know that much about cigars other than the fact that my grandfather loved to smoke them. I can remember for many years the standard gift we bought Grand Dad for Christmas or Father’s Day or his birthday was a box of cigars. His eyes would light up with delight and he would immediately light one up and savor the smoke while we talked about the “good old days” of his youth. Now that he has passed away, I don’t even think much about cigars anymore.
Bose headphones
When Allen told me that he wanted to get a pair of Bose headphones to take back to college with him I had to say that I wasn’t terribly surprised. Bose makes great sounding equipment. I can remember back around 1978 when I bought a pair of Bose speakers for my stereo system. They were the absolutely best sounding speakers I’ve ever had in my life. A little on the pricey side, but they are definitely worth the extra money.
What were they thinking?
Today I got a phone call from my niece Alicia. Seems that she and her husband decided last week to go to the animal shelter and adopt a cat. I don’t know why they wanted to adopt a cat; they don’t even have enough money to pay for their own needs, and they have a two year old toddler that needs a lot of attention and money. And they live in an apartment that doesn’t allow pets to begin with! Anyway, instead of getting a cat, they fell in love with a german shepherd – staffordshire terrier (pit bull) mix dog and brought it home.
Well wouldn’t you know it, within the week that dog had nipped the baby twice – once on the hand, and then once on the foot. So they decided that the were going to return the dog to the animal shelter. Well, I have not ever seen the dog, but since I think that they were unwise to adopt a large sized dog when they are stone-cold broke and live in an apartment with a two year old toddler, I’m glad that they have realized that they can’t keep it and decided to return it to the animal shelter. I just feel badly for the dog, and I can’t imagine that the people at the animal shelter actually let them adopt the dog in the first place!
It takes all types
Sometimes when you live in a small town you don’t think about the careers that could be pursued in a big city. In a way, living in a small town is like living in a bubble. Life is slower, simpler in a small town. So when you leave that small town to go on some kind of trip, either business or pleasure sometimes you get a glimpse into the “real world” and it can be eye-opening. For example, my nephew Shawn has been going to college at Princeton, and he didn’t come home from college for the winter break because he was invited to go spend the break with his room-mate’s family.
The father of the family is in the chemical investment banking business. To be perfectly honest, I never would have dreamed that there was such a business, and I can only imagine what they do there. Dave (Shawn’s room-mate) is already planning on entering the business and going into the chemical mergers and acquisitions department in an advisory position. Being a very hands-on kind of guy, that sounds to me like a lot of paper-work for a job, and that is not something I would be interested in doing myself; I like getting out in the elements and getting my hands dirty. But someone like Shawn, who is a lot more studious and serious, that sounds like something he could do if it interested him. I’m always wondering if Shawn is going to end up getting a job offer from a friendship forged there at school. After all, they say it isn’t what you know that counts, it is who you know. And going to an ivy league college like that greatly increases your chances of meeting a very influential person that could act as a catalyst in making a major change in your employment future.
