Well we haven’t held true this year with the old saying that April Showers bring May Flowers. I sure hope that we do get some rain soon, my well is acting like it is running on the dry side and that isn’t good news. I wonder who pissed off Mother Nature this year. We have had nothing but wacky weather for so very long, it’s getting old.
Now that we have warm Spring weather, I’m bracing myself for the round of Spring allergies. Every year in March, I get really bad allergy symptoms, from watery eyes to a runny nose to sneezing and sometimes a sore throat and cough. The allergies make it hard to know if I am just suffering from allergies or if I might have something more serious, like strep throat. I am going to stock up on my brand of antihistamines today and have them at hand for when I get my first sneeze.
It’s a good thing I like to work out in the yard! We have had so much rain lately that the grass is growing by leaps and bounds! Thankfully I have a great riding mower with zero turn radius and a bagger attachment that holds a lot of grass clippings!
This is the first year that I have decided to really try my hand at composting. Sure, we’ve had a garbage heap in the back woods where we just threw our table scraps, but I’ve never added leaves, clippings, or manure to it faithfully and bothered to turn it. I’ve just not bothered withit! It was just a garbage heap! I’d like to buy one of those barrels that you turn once a week and use that to make good compost. The soil around here could use some good compost to make it more fertile!
Over the past few months, I’ve been hearing a few people talking about “clean coal.” From time to time I hear something about new technologies being developed to make coal a “clean” energy source. I’ve watched a lot of television news stories about how coal is removed from the earth, how dangerous coal mining is, and how the economies of states like West Virginia and Pennsylvania depend largely on coal, but I am not convinced that coal is the direction we should be going. I think that we still need to be looking at solar energy, wind energy, and bio-diesel fuels made from algae.
