This afternoon we are expecting a lot of company. My wife’s side of the family is coming over for a “family day” reunion type of afternoon/evening meal. We are expecting about twelve people to come over, everyone is supposed to bring some kind of food to share with everyone else. They are supposed to start arriving around 3pm today and leave around 8pm.
So my wife is running around the house trying to get the house “company ready.” I’m going to go outside and mow the lawn and hide in the garage as much as possible so she doesn’t ask me to do anything inside the house to help.
I was reading an article about how important it seems to be to a lot of people to define Barack Obama as half-white OR half-black or all black or bi-racial or whatever. What is IS is a very well educated political leader that has been elected to be the next President of the United States. The color of his skin should not make any difference. The races mixed in his blood should make no difference. What he SAYS and what he DOES SHOULD make a lot of difference. So I think we should all just get over this debate and wish him luck in fixing this country’s troubles, because he is going to need all the luck he can get!
Well we got up early and went to church, dressed in our Easter Best clothes. Then we went to my uncle’s house for the family Easter celebration. They held a big Easter Egg hunt for all of the kids out in the big back wooded yard. There must have been a hundred eggs! Afterwards we ate a huge dinner, the main meat being a large spiral cut honey ham. It was delicious! After dinner, all of the family musicians pulled out their instruments and jammed for hours while the children danced to the music. It was a great party!
Over the past few months, I’ve been hearing a few people talking about “clean coal.” From time to time I hear something about new technologies being developed to make coal a “clean” energy source. I’ve watched a lot of television news stories about how coal is removed from the earth, how dangerous coal mining is, and how the economies of states like West Virginia and Pennsylvania depend largely on coal, but I am not convinced that coal is the direction we should be going. I think that we still need to be looking at solar energy, wind energy, and bio-diesel fuels made from algae.
Well, April Fools Day has arrived, the day when everyone is supposed to be so happy and giddy that spring is here that they play silly pranks on each other! I’m happy to report that so far no one has sprung any pranks on me and I hope it stays that way! I think I’m safe, I’m home for the evening and I’m not expecting any guests or phone calls! I’m sorry to say that most of the April Fool jokes that have been played on me tend to be cruel, so I’d just as soon not be the butt of someone else’s mean and rude jokes.
